Prince Harry is an “incredibly proud” new papa.
USA TODAYPrince William and Duchess Kate seemed almost as over-the-moon about Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s newborn boy as Harry himself, telling reporters Tuesday that they are keen to meet the newest little royal. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge opened up about their nephew, born Monday, during an appearance in Greenwich in southeast London to launch the King’s Cup Regatta charity competition they will host in August. The couple seemed genuinely pleased about still unnamed Baby Sussex, perhaps finally putting to rest the pre-birth carping about an alleged “feud” between the two royal couples. And yes, spring’s in the air and everything so it’s pretty great,” she said. “As William said, I look forward to meeting him (the baby) and finding out what his name is going to be. “So it’s really exciting for both of them. And I’m wishing them the best in these next few weeks. It’s always a bit daunting the first time around.”On Monday, the couple also posted about their delight on their Instagram page. “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son today, and look forward to meeting the latest addition to the family,” the caption read.“We couldn’t be more delighted at the news and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return.”The Prince of Wales on the birth of his new grandson, speaking to well-wishers today in Berlin. #RoyalVisitGermanypic.twitter.com/Liyq1nJ97B— Clarence House (@ClarenceHouse) May 7, 2019And the baby’s grandfather, Prince Charles, father of Will and Harry, also weighed in on Tuesday. He and wife Duchess Camilla are in Germany on an important four-day charm offensive to burnish Britain’s close ties to Germany in the wake of Brexit uncertainty.“We couldn’t be more delighted at the news and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return,” Charles told well-wishers in Berlin, according to a Clarence House tweet. Will, 36, and Kate, 37, were dressed casually for their engagement, with Kate in nautical-themed duds appropriate to the occasion: She had on cropped sailor pants by L.K. Bennett, a striped Breton top and suede, square-heeled pumps. That’s their plan as well when they host the inaugural regatta, The King’s Cup, on Aug. 9 on the Isle of Wight, to raise funds for eight of their charities. On Tuesday, they appeared at the Cutty Sark, a 19th-century clipper ship now a tourist attraction in Greenwich, to join children and teens from some of their chosen charities to take part in a simulated sailing race. Then they unveiled The King’s Cup, an historic trophy first presented by King George V (one of Will’s ancestors) at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.After the launch, the couple greeted well-wishers on a rope line, chatting with fans waving phone cameras.AutoplayShow ThumbnailsShow CaptionsLast SlideNext SlideMore: Famous faces tweet congratulations to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle after royal baby arrivesMore: Amy Schumer and Duchess Meghan gave birth to sons within hours of each otherAutoplayShow ThumbnailsShow CaptionsLast SlideNext SlideRead or Share this story: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2019/05/07/meghan-markle-prince-harrys-royal-baby-prince-william-and-kate-gush/1127711001/
